We want to build a new network of grassroots groups in West Central Scotland who want to work collaboratively and holistically to bring about positive change in our communities, reduce inequalities and protect the grassroots sector from extractive practices.
Our CLAN Principles
- Community Led – We are embedded in and led by the needs of the community we serve
- Locally Accountable – We support our communities and everything we do is to achieve their outcomes not our own
- Active in reducing inequalities – We are committed to Social Justice
- Networked – We share knowledge and resources freely with each other
The funding environment has changed – it can be incredibly difficult for grassroots placed based groups and their volunteers, who know the needs of their communities and are able to offer the solutions to actually do this anymore due to layers of administration and bureaucracy imposed by the burgeoning non profit industrial complex.
Our CLAN Pledges
- Changemaking – We want our communities to be better places for everyone
- Learning Focussed – We learn from our work and share with others, we train each other
- Adaptive – We are responsive to community needs and ambitions
- Net Zero – We are committed to sustainability and carbon reduction
Administration by intermediary bodies has stripped much of the resource intended to deliver change in communities and we need to look at sustainable alternatives such as strategic commissioning, partnership grant applications and organic networking to ensure that we as a sector can survive the top down pressure and continue to deliver vital services.
Our CLAN Plan
- Collaborate on addressing community needs and sharing our skills
- Lead on a third sector first campaign
- Act to ensure Community Benefits serve real community needs
- Negotiate space for our sector in strategic commissioning
